Tom Gegax
Gegax, 61, has been an executive at Shell Oil, a start-up entrepreneur, a CEO and a member of numerous boards. In 2000, he sold his 150-location Tires Plus Stores to Bridgestone/Firestone before writing books on entrepreneurship, including "The Big Book of Small Business" (HarperCollins, 2007). Gegax is Chairman of The Gramercy Fund, a venture capital firm, and heads GMS, provider of seminars and consulting. He also serves on several boards including Center for Science in the Public Interest and Bobby Kennedy, Jr.'s Waterkeeper Alliance. He lives in Minneapolis and La Jolla, Calif.
T. Trent Gegax
Gegax, 41, is Chief Operating Officer of The Gramercy Fund, a venture capital firm. He trained his due-diligence skills during 11 years as a correspondent for Newsweek magazine, where he covered politics, the military and the advent of the Web in the mid-1990s. Assignments included covering George W. Bush's 2000 presidential campaign and embedding with the U.S. Army during the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Gegax also assisted Al Gore with his New York Times best seller "The Assault on Reason" (Penguin, 2007). He lives in New York City.
John R. Leach
Leach, 65, is the former President and CEO of Western Auto Supply Co. (now owned by Advance Auto Parts Co.), a $2 billion retail and wholesale supplier of parts and accessories. He served from 1977 to retirement in 1996. Prior to Western Auto, he held several executive positions for the Auto Store Group of Sears, Roebuck and Co. Leach is an expert in business development and, subsequent to retirement, served on boards of several for-profit companies. Leach is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Indiana University's MBA program and Harvard University's executive program. He lives in Naples, Fla., and serves on several non-profit boards.
Charles Lukens
Lukens, 40, is APU Solutions' Chief Executive Officer. He joined APU's predecessor company in 2000 as Director of Sales and was promoted to Vice president of Sales in 2001, President and Chief Operating Officer in 2002, and CEO in 2006. Prior to APU, Lukens held executive management-level sales and operations roles for 12 years in the telecommunications field. He was Regional Vice President of Sales and Operations for E.spire Communications' West region. Prior to E.spire, he was Sprint's Director of National Accounts, Midwest region. Lukens studied business administration at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He lives in Kansas City.
Larry C. Maddox
Maddox, 65, has been a private equity investor since 1972. He is a founding general partner of three Allsop Venture Partners private-equity partnerships, which invested in 78 companies during the 1980s. Since 1993, he has personally invested in over 30 private equity opportunities. Today, Maddox is on the board of directors or is a managing member for seven private companies. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he earned an industrial engineering degree before completing his MBA at the University of Iowa. He lives in Naples, Fla.
Scott R. Petersen
Petersen is a co-founder of APU Solutions. He's Chief Executive Officer of Best Vinyl, the largest nationwide installer of vinyl fencing and decking. Petersen, a long-time entrepreneur, co-founded or helped build seven companies. A community leader, he serves as the faculty advisor to Brigham Young University's Collegiate Entrepreneur Organization (CEO) chapter, repeatedly honored as one of the top chapters in the country. In 2005, CEO received the international "best chapter" award. Petersen, an author of a history book, serves on several boards for foundations that are committed to serving the developing world and other important causes. Petersen lives in Orem, Utah.
